At the beginning of the year we announced an exciting partnership with Groupe Silvya Terrade to host their first Summer Academy at the Yorkshire College of Beauty.
It was a real honor to be chosen by Co-founder Gregory Declercq and his team at Groupe Silvya Terrade to host this event, who have over 40 beauty schools located around France and abroad.
Silvya Terrade Group, a network of 47 hairdressing and aesthetic schools in France and abroad. Thanks to the high profile of the Silvya Terrade brand, many agreements have been put in place with prestigious professionals to help students find a job even before the end of their schooling. Throughout their schooling, students move within various training venues: hairdressing salons, beauty salons, perfumeries, thalassotherapy, spa, slimming centers, parapharmacies, cosmetic and luxury brands, etc. Activities and extracurricular events punctuate the life of schools. They allow students to discover the world of professional makeup, runway hairstyles, the Spa ... and so find their way and live their passion.
The Summer Academy provided an opportunity for beauty therapists studying at Groupe Silvya Terrade to learn advanced beauty treatments and deliver the specialised treatments to clients in our college salon.
After a year of planning our overseas students arrived at the Yorkshire College of Beauty on Monday 22nd July to begin their four week Summer Academy.
Once settled they were escorted to our training room where they received their uniforms provided by Groupe Silvya Terrade and a welcome pack provided by ourselves which included a whats on guide donated from Welcome to Yorkshire and a fab goody bag from Ellisons.
During the four weeks they covered Body Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Body Scrubs, Face Masks, Individual Lashes, Spray Tans and Make-up.
English language lessons were also incorporated into the scheme of work which will benefit the students when securing job roles overseas. Our tutor Lawrence had some fantastic lessons planned and all made excellent progress during the academy.
It wasn’t all work and no play, during the evenings and on weekends they visited various places including the historical city of York and even squeezed in a trip down to the big smoke. Hunters Coaches provided transport daily from The Halls of Residence at Leeds University where the students set up home for the duration of the Summer Academy.
It’s only fair that when in England you indulge in a traditional English afternoon tea so before leaving the UK we held a small graduation ceremony at The Queens Hotel in Leeds where each student was presented with their diplomas.
What a fantastic experience it has been for both Groupe Silvya Terrade and the Yorkshire College of Beauty. We’ve loved every second of hosting the first Summer Academy and look forward to what next year brings.
“We are grateful and proud to run the first Summer Academy Programme. It’s provided an amazing opportunity for our students. Not only to return home with advanced beauty skills but to have improved English language. A warm thank you to the teachers at the Yorkshire College of Beauty. We are proud of our students spirit, love and smiles throughout the four week programme”Anais
